Pebbles by andrewfphoto Pebbles by andrewfphoto
I had been approached (in May last year) by Liz Emanuel, to do photography of her Archive collection and got to thinking of some concepts which would fit with her extravagant designs.
India (model in photo) and I went hunting for ' props ' and based on idea I'd had in my mind - since seeing one of Tim Walker's photos of real flowers growing out of floral wallpaper - of flowers/plants growing out of a person, found these miniature dried flowers.
I also wanted a cracked/plaster/porcelain look to the skin and I asked Andrea (Perry-Bevan) to have a think about we could achieve it.
On the day of the tests ( a sultry and close Manchester late Spring, in an even sultrier and closer student flat off Oxford Road) we decided to use ordinary face-mask as a trial, so I went out and bought various ones from a nearby chemists, while Andrea got on with the gluing, curling, painting and sweating.
The lights were LEDs set in acrylic and this was the first serious test of the Nikon D3 versus the old-faithful Canon 5D.
The Canon won on this occasion as I hadn't got used to the 'look' of the Nikon files, so went with what I knew best.
So here is the finished one, re-edited today, to add a touch of warmth to the skin tones.

Quite the definition of a perfect image, where everything is immaculately balanced. My favourite aspect is actually quite a surprise to the overall viewing experience... when I noticed the blue of her garb and had to smile at how it contrasts with the ocean depths surrounding her eyes.

The things that you can do with light are absolutely fascinating.

There is a perfect balance between areas of rich, almost overwhelming color saturation, and pure, white light untainted by that color.

...And it is absolutely fantastic!
It's too bad you still hadn't adapted to the Nikon A. But oh well... As long as it does not keep you from taking your wonderful pictures!

this was over a year ago now, Ped - I am fully into the Nikon system again now.....D3 and D3x.
I was a Nikon user from first job back in 1986....and it is only the full-frame of Canon 1Ds that made me switch.
Nikon is the thinking man's system, right?!?!?!?......;)
