I've been reading a series that uses the Miss Havisham character from "Great Expectations" who is a disappointed bride. Havisham has worn only her wedding dress since the day of her wedding-that-never-was, and lives amongst the remenants of a day that was to be her happiest but instead was her worst.

This photo captures this perfectly for me. She's a much older character as I read her, but in this photo is Havisham when she was young and newly bereft.

Aloha - Forgive me if I read the comments wrong, but you were able to use HDR using 1 file? Thought you had to have at least 2 images with differing exposure levels?

I suppose in those terms it's not really HDR - I process the RAW in two or three different exposures and do my best from there.

No biggie on the terms..

I read that it wouldn't work if you tried to use post-process versions of the same photo, and was just wondering if there was another way..
When I read you used only one shot, I was optimistically curious.

Unfortunately, I do mostly fast action surf photos so I don't have the opportunity to take several exposures of one shot.
(I'm pretty bummed about it, 'cause the saturation you get from HDR is simply irresistable!)

Do you by chance use Photoshop's HDR or some other software?

Thanks for taking the time..

don't believe all that you ead - it works as long as you shoot RAW, then process out at least 2.... a version that opens up the shadow detail and one that pulls in the highlights.
Photomatix is the one to try and it does only work on 16 bit Tifs.

Definitely doable, I only shoot in RAW.
Hey, thanks again - I'm off to check out that program.

I appreciate it! Aloha..

That's amazing. How did you merge the pictures together? (HDR right)

it is just one pic - the HDR is done on the one!

Is HDR a purely digital function or for film?
Great shot by the way...

You can use it on any scanned file as well as a digital cam file. Just wscan twice, once to open up the shadows and once to pull down the highlights.
I think this way you should get EVEN better results.

Andrew

PS the software to try is photomatix if you haven't already.

The colours are amazing. So rustic (?) and unreal.
